TLC's Evening of Recognition 2026
The Literacy Center Celebrates Student Achievement and Community Partnerships at 2026 Evening of Recognition
The Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts and Bristol County Savings Bank Honored as Outstanding Community Partners
The Literacy Center (TLC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing adult education and English language learning opportunities, hosted its annual Evening of Recognition on June 18, 2026. The event celebrated the accomplishments of TLC’s 800+ students, over 60 volunteers, and key community partners whose support helps advance the organization’s mission.
This year’s award went to three TLC students who have exemplified academic achievement, civic leadership, and career perseverance. The Donna Morse Volunteer Award, named for TLC’s founder, was presented to tutor Lew Gordon for his exceptional dedication and service to students over three decades.
The event also recognized participants in TLC’s ESOL for Childcare Employment program, which helps English language learners gain the language and professional skills needed to pursue careers in early childhood education. In addition, TLC celebrated students who recently achieved United States citizenship, marking an important milestone in their educational and personal journeys.
Outstanding Community Partner Awards were presented to the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts and Bristol County Savings Bank in recognition of their continued commitment to strengthening opportunities for underserved individuals throughout the region. Representatives accepting the awards included Attorneys Meagan Hecht and Sugandha Gopal on behalf of the Justice Center of Southeast Massachusetts and President and CEO John Silva on behalf of Bristol County Savings Bank.
“The Evening of Recognition is an opportunity for us to reflect on everything our community has achieved over the past year,” said Amanda Blount, Executive Director of The Literacy Center. “In light of the challenges that so many are facing, coming together to celebrate and share in the joy of our students’ achievements is as important as any service we provide.”
The evening featured welcoming remarks from Attleboro Mayor Cathleen DeSimone, and State Representative Jim Hawkins, as well as a special video message from Congressman Jake Auchincloss. The program highlighted the transformative impact of adult education and the importance of community collaboration in helping individuals achieve educational, professional, and personal success.
For 38 years, The Literacy Center has served as a vital resource for adult learners across the Greater Attleboro area, providing English language instruction, adult education services, workforce development programs, and pathways to citizenship. Each year, the organization supports hundreds of students representing more than 50 countries and a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
